Arkona Lion’s Medical Centre
4 Union Street – Arkona, On (519) 828-3821
This was an Arkona Lion’s project that was brought to Arkona in the early 1960s at a time when it was very difficult to get doctors to have a practice in the rural areas. There are two doctors who operate a dispensary as well. With the Strathroy General Hospital being close as well.
In 2016 with the retirement of one of the longest serving doctors, Arkona was left without any physician although the Dental Clinic continued to flourish. With the support of a Strathroy doctor, a nurse practitioner served the community for a period of time. However, the Lions Club Medical Committee continued to fervently search for a new physician for over a year. Finally, after a great number of consultations, interviews and visits, two medical doctors came to serve the Arkona Medical Centre which was totally renovated and modernized and opened in April, 2018.
Doctors, Connor and Kristina Rice opened a family medicine practice in April 2018 in the Arkona Medical Centre. They are happy to be serving the people of Arkona and surrounding area.
Connor and Kristina both completed their family medicine residencies through Western University in London. They have 2 children, Libby and Bennett.
Currently, Joanne Shepherd is the clinic’s receptionist and Lorrie Dale is the lab technician.
Prior to opening the practice, the office was renovated through the support of the Arkona Lions Club and other community members. It feels like a second home to the Doctors.
