This
was an Arkona Lion's project that was brought to
Arkona in the early 1960s at a time when it was
very difficult to get doctors to have a practice
in the rural areas. There are two doctors who operate
a dispensary as well. With the Strathroy General
Hospital being close as well. |

Dental Clinic |
The
Arkona Dental Office has been provided through
funding from the Arkona Lion's Club. There are
2 dentists, 2 hygienists and numerous other support
staff. Services include general dentistry, full
and partial dentures and cosmetic dentistry for
the whole family. |

Optometrists |
We
have provided family eye care to the people of
Arkona and surrounding area since 1979. Services
include comprehensive eye examinations, contact
lens care, refractive surgery co-management, dispensing,
on-site lens fabrication and more.

Arkona
Recreation Committee |
The
Recreation Committee is in charge of the summer
program for the children, managing the Utter Ball
Park and handling other functions for the children.
They co-ordinate the Arkona's Funtastic Days, which
includes a parade and baseball tournament.

Neighbourhood Watch |
This
is a volunteer group that is appointed by Council.
They act as a liaison between the police and the
homeowners of our community. They have a quarterly
newsletter and also run different functions that
are to create safety awareness and bring the community
closer together.
The
mission of the Block Parent Program is: To create
a safer environment for the community's children
and others by designating and creating awareness
of safe Block Parent homes in the community.

Arkona
Seniors Club |
The
seniors club was formed in 1972 and they moved
into their present location during the Arkona Centennial
in 1976. On the 2nd Wednesday of every month they
host a pot luck luncheon and in the evening they
have a card party. They also have shuffle board
and line dancing. |

Library |
The
library has been in Arkona for many years and is
now run in conjunction with the Lambton Library
System. They have many books on hand and if you
need a specific book, it can be ordered in for
you. If you need computer access, they have 2 along
with internet access. |

T.O.P.S.
(Take Off Pounds Sensibly) |

Arkona, is a support group of men and women of
all ages who wish to lose weight by following Canada's
food guide. They have 25 members and now have 7
KOPS (Keep off Pounds Sensibly). TOPS is an organization
where a 'loser' is a 'winner'. |

Arkona Fire
Department |
This
is a volunteer fire department that has been around
since the early 1920's. They still have their old
1946 pumper and just got a new fire truck in 1997.
Our Fire Department has joined the Ausable Fire
Department, which encompasses 4 other municipalities,
and we also sell fire service to 2 more. |
